He teams up with a young kid to get the station back on its feet. A pampered show biz dog, Rexx, not happy with the ridiculous wig and outfits his owner wants to dress it in, decides to escape. The next stop is at the local firehouse that is targeted for closing. The fire chief, Connor Fahey, figures his son Shane needs some sort of responsibility and entrusts the pooch to his care. At first, Dewey, the boy names him, is not cooperative at all, but there little by little boy and dog will figure out they can be friends and help the station stay afloat.

Todd Holland directed this film that is targeted for a younger crowd that will be delighted by the antics of a smart dog interacting with his young master. Josh Hutcherson, who plays Shane is perfect for the part. Bruce Greenwood, an excellent actor is seenConnor. This is a terrific actor who unfortunately has nothing to do since he is just an incidental piece in the large scheme of things. Four different dogs are given credit for their appearanceRexx/Dewey.

A film that will amuse younger and older viewers looking for a light comedy. Watched this because I like dogs. The dog itself was perfect - some sort of Irish terrier cross - very "doggy" looking. The story was quite good I thought. The nasty little boy turns out to be quite a pleasant fellow…….although I think he is meant to be adorable! Couldn't understand more than 30% of what anybody was saying, but that didn't really matter - they all seemed quite standard people with nothing interesting to say. The firemen were a sort of Keystones Cops bunch - a black person, a Latino, a woman and a blond chap who seemed quite stupid. Unlike other reviewers I didn't mind the relatively coarse scenes of the dog farting and snoring….I did however object to the scene where the dog has been reunited with his original owner who - to celebrate - offers the animal a variation on a group of hookers - three differently colored poodles! This really seemed vulgar and not particularly suitable for the children who are presumably the target audience - but then indoctrination can't start too soon!! A surprisingly heartfelt father/son relationship, handled with restraint by director Todd Holland.
